Item/Service Description
• Local hyperthermia for treatment of cancer consists of the use of heat to make tumors more susceptible to cancer therapy measures.
Indications and Limitations of Coverage
• Local hyperthermia is covered under Medicare when used in connection with radiation therapy for the treatment of primary or metastatic cutaneous or subcutaneous superficial malignancies.
• It is NOT covered when used alone or in connection with chemotherapy.
